Charleston Engagement Session | Brittaney & Joey

You may recognize this couple from last week’s Lowndes Grove Wedding blog, but that’s because I realized I never hit publish on Brittaney and Joey’s Charleston engagement session! But better late than never, right? Keep that phrase in mind when you hear about their love story!

Their Love Story

The two met in middle school and became best friends who did so much together, from neighborhood pool days to amusement park adventures. But, the timing never worked out romantically for Brittaney and Joey. While Brittaney asked Joey to her homecoming, he could not go, and Brittaney ultimately “friend-zoned” him anyway. Years passed, and they both went to Virginia Tech, where they remained friends and dated others. Brittaney and Joey reconnected when Brittaney went to graduate school, and after that, their relationship blossomed. They finally began dating in the summer of 2019, and Joey proposed in the spring of 2021. It’s like I said before… better late than never! And now, they get to live happily ever after.

The Proposal

Joey proposed at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. Joey had planned a trip to Asheville with both sets of their parents, and Brittaney didn’t think anything of it because it’s a beautiful place to visit and an experience they would all enjoy. Unfortunately, it ended up being quite a rainy day until they finished touring the estate when the skies had miraculously cleared. So, the family strolled to the gardens, and that’s when Joey got down on one knee to propose. Afterward, Brittaney turned around to see not only both sets of parents present for the moment, but her best friends, sister, and brother-in-law as well! Just minutes later, the rain started again, leaving everyone soaked. But even so, it was the best surprise, followed by hours of celebration.

Charleston Engagement Session At Lowndes Grove

Because their Charleston wedding would be at Lowndes Grove, Brittaney and Joey decided to have their engagement session at their venue. It was Joey’s first time visiting the Lowcountry (and the venue!), so the two got to make a trip out of it. If you ask me, your engagement session is an amazing opportunity to travel somewhere new with your partner and take a break from all the planning! Stunning images are an added bonus, of course. It was so fun to get to know each other better and dream up ideas for their wedding day while exploring the venue and its grounds together.

Brittaney and Joey are so natural and comfortable around each other, which makes sense because they’ve been close for half their lives! We didn’t stop laughing the entire time. For their Charleston engagement session, they followed my style guide to a T, wearing neutrals and soft tones while also complementing the palette they had chosen for their wedding design. With several adorable looks, this couple showed off their style beautifully.

I had an absolute blast capturing Brittaney and Joey during their Charleston engagement session at Lowndes Grove.
