Lowndes Grove is one of Charleston’s most beautiful and historic wedding venues. With its quaint southern charm, Brittaney and Joey were smitten by this waterfront estate which they knew would provide an unparalleled backdrop for their wedding celebration. This Charleston wedding venue was the perfect refined and relaxed setting thanks to the property’s stunning mansion, sprawling oak trees, and breathtaking river views. Follow along as I share some highlights from this Lowndes Grove wedding!
Design & Details
For their wedding design, Eden of Ellis Event Design allowed the venue to speak for itself with a simple yet elegant design. Complete with neutral tones, sage green, and navy blue, this timeless and tasteful look was perfect for a coastal Charleston wedding.
Personal Details
Brittaney and Joey included some personal details on their wedding day that were filled with love and intention.
Joey wore a special custom suit that included a jacket lined with photos. The pictures incorporated sentimental memories with him, his groomsmen, and his late brother, AJ, who would have proudly stood beside him on the big day.
They also subtly included their pets in the reception. The groom drew the most adorable portraits of their dogs, Ziggy and Koda, as part of their custom cocktail signage. It was adorable!
On The Day
Before their Lowndes Grove wedding ceremony, Brittaney and Joey opted for a “first touch” instead of a first look. The two held hands around a corner without seeing each other and tearfully exchanged their vows. It was such a beautiful moment shared between just the couple.
After their first touch, we headed into a beautiful outdoor ceremony on The Grand Lawn. Brittaney and Joey’s ceremony was lively and lighthearted. While surrounded by friends and family, the pastor shared ten things Brittaney and Joey love about each other, leaving everyone giggling.
The Reception
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed an al fresco cocktail hour on the piazza overlooking the river and oak grove. It was the perfect backdrop for this spring Charleston wedding.
The reception started with an energetic entrance by the newlyweds, who then shared their first dance. After their first dance, the bride and groom joined their parents in emotional parent dances. Their clear-tented reception with twinkling lights created a captivating ambiance and was the perfect setting for the couple to dance the night away under a canopy of stars.
When we snuck away for some romantic evening portraits, Brittaney and Joey were able to spend a few intimate moments together to take in the coastal views on the property’s private dock. Meanwhile, the guests enjoyed the most breathtaking panoramic sunset over the Ashley River. We all marveled at the glorious sunset that topped off this one-of-a-kind Lowndes Grove wedding. It truly felt like AJ was watching from the sky. His love was ever-present throughout the celebration, and his warming presence was a gift during sunset.
To conclude the reception, Brittaney and Joey’s guests surrounded them for a grand exit. Guests cheered and waved wispy light-up wands as the newlyweds exited the venue to their getaway car — a wedding-white Bronco, complete with tin cans tied to the bumper and “just married” written on the rear window.
Brittaney and Joey’s Lowndes Grove wedding celebration was the perfect balance of tender, heartwarming moments mixed with lively and gleeful memories in the making. It was an honor to be by their side to capture the cherished moments of their Charleston wedding.
