Mary Katharine and Matthew’s Stone Harbor engagement session absolutely took my breath away. The beach sunset session was dreamy and romantic, and the boat portraits were unforgettable. The sunset was filled with warm pastels while seagulls swirled in the sky above. While I always do my best to capture the beauty of a moment, photos just couldn’t do the moment justice. It was PERFECT!
A New Jersey Shore Love Story
Mary Katharine and Matthew’s love story will make you believe in fate. They both grew up in the same town just down the road from each other. The two went to the same church and knew the same people, yet they had never met. One weekend away at the shore changed both of their lives forever.
Given the special meaning that the shore has for both Mary Katharine and Matthew, it was only fitting that we planned a Stone Harbor engagement session. We began the session in the sandy dunes and waterfront of Stone Harbor beach, then headed out on Matt’s family boat at sunset for dreamy portraits on the water.
The Proposal
Matthew had a grand plan to propose to Mary Katharine while playing scrabble by writing out “Marry Me.” But, about halfway through the game, he realized that they were both too competitive and that he was running out of letters in the bag. So, he admitted defeat and resumed playing the game like normal.
So instead, Matthew decided he would propose later that day when Mary Katharine was least expecting it, while she was on the phone with her mom. During their telephone call, Matthew abruptly entered the room and immediately got down on one knee and popped the question. As someone who doesn’t like surprises, Mary Katharine was caught entirely off guard and pleasantly surprised.
Memorable Moments From The Session
I will never forget as we finished Mary Katharine and Matthews Stone Harbor engagement session when Mary Katharine let out a sigh of relief and said, “Thank goodness I didn’t get sick!” She explained that she usually gets quite seasick, and I had absolutely NO idea the entire time! She shared that she was looking forward to doing the unique engagement portraits on the water, which was worth the risk. I think it’s safe to say that you cannot tell in the photos and these two absolutely ROCKED their engagement shoot!
One of the things I love the most about being a Philadelphia wedding photographer is when I have an opportunity to meet the couple and their family before the wedding. With Mary Katharine and Matthew, it was such a pleasure getting to meet Matthew’s parents at the shore during their engagement session.
