A Phillies-Themed Wedding in The Fall | Jess and Greg

Jess and Greg’s Phillies-themed wedding was a family-oriented affair filled with personalized details. It was the perfect mix of traditional and non-traditional elements, from their catholic ceremony to their nods to Philly sports teams. Follow along as I share with you some unique sports-themed wedding details and beautiful Valley Forge wedding portraits from their wedding day!

Their Love Story

Jess and Greg’s love story started at a mutual friend’s house party. They later hit it off while celebrating with friends at the Eagles’ 2018 Super Bowl parade. Within weeks of meeting, these two Philly sports fans were officially dating.

Greg popped the question during his family’s annual ski trip in Colorado. While Jess doesn’t ski, she took the ski lift up the mountain to meet Greg and his family for drinks. When she made it to the top, everyone gathered for a group photo. That’s when Greg dropped to one knee, and everyone celebrated. They popped champagne and had a massive group Facetime call with all their friends and family who weren’t there. When they returned home two days later, Jess and Greg were treated to a surprise engagement party and more celebrations, blowing them away with emotion all over again.

Fate and Matching Couples Tattoos

Jess and Greg got engaged on January 22. Wildly enough, on the flights to and from their proposal trip, they were randomly seated in row 22. Then, coincidentally, their wedding venue of choice happened to have October 22 of 2022 open. Of course, that’s what they simply *had* to book for their date! The day before Jess and Greg were to get their marriage license, they went out for drinks. Greg ordered a different beer than usual since the bar was out of his go-to. They later noticed that the drink he chose on a whim was #22 on the chalkboard beer list. The following day, right after picking up their marriage license, Jess and Greg went for matching “22” tattoos. Because with that many signs, obviously, it just had to be done! The signs were all there that this would be a love story for the ages.

The Wedding Day

Jess and Greg’s wedding day included elegant wedding details with a sports fan twist. The wedding party was dressed in all black, while the reception featured traditional black and white decor with white flowers. It was a beautiful celebration!

After their catholic ceremony at Our Lady of Peace Church, we spent some time at Valley Forge National Park for the wedding party, family, and couples portraits amongst the fall foliage.

Phillies-Themed Wedding

These sports fans drew no line and had a Phillies-themed wedding with a ton of Philadelphia sports team references throughout the day; some of my favorites took palace during the reception!

During their grand entrance into the ballroom, the newlyweds entered waving “Fightin’ Phils” rally towels. Later in the evening, the couple and their guests chanted the song “Dancing on my Own,” the unofficial anthem of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Throughout the duration of the reception, the DJ announced game updates while the Philadelphia Phillies played in the National League Championship Series. Their Phillies-themed wedding reception was certainly one to remember!

Jess and Greg’s Phillies-themed wedding was such a hit amongst Philly sports fans that their wedding was featured by phillymag.com right before the Phillies went to the World Series. Be sure to check out the article for some cherished moments, including how Jess and Greg replicated a special moment from Greg’s parent’s wedding!

Sentimental Touches

As much as Jess and Greg love their Philadelphia teams, it was also important to them that their wedding day was also family-focused.

So, during the reception, Greg surprised Jess, her sister, and their mother with a song dedicated to Jess’ late father, Nick. The song was “There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” by Rex Allen, which is from the Carousel of Progress, Nick’s favorite ride in Walt Disney World. Seeing the family laugh and cry as they danced together in Nick’s memory was such a touching moment.

Since their dogs, Kelce and Carson, could not be in attendance, the newlyweds incorporated them into the wedding day with signature cocktails named after each dog. The Kelce was a classic margarita, and The Carson an orange crush. Fun custom cocktails are always a huge hit!

It was such a blast to photograph Jess and Greg’s Phillies-themed wedding and Valley Forge wedding portraits. I loved how they customized their wedding day to include their love of Philly sports teams while also letting their love for each other shine. Between their friends and family members, Jess and Greg had an amazing and lively group that I won’t soon forget!
