I’m a firm believer that you should never stop dating your partner.
That means even if you’re engaged or married (and technically no longer “dating”), it’s important to still date your significant other.
There is something so romantic and special about dedicating a night to one another and your love. To catch up on all the things, to joke around, and to simply enjoy each other’s company with no distractions.
Whether your date night looks like homemade cocktails and a movie night in, a mini weekend getaway, or a nice restaurant in the city to treat yourselves, I think that date nights are essential in happy, successful relationships, whether they’re once a week or once a month.
With that said, I wanted to share my favorite date night ideas in Philadelphia with you to give you some inspiration for your next date night so that it will be a blast!
1. Have dinner at a restaurant overlooking the city.
Who doesn’t love dinner with a view? Having dinner overlooking the Philadelphia skyline for my birthday was one of my absolute favorite dates! We planned our reservations around sunset and booked window seating facing the west so that we would have the best view possible, and it did not disappoint! Unfortunately, the restaurant I intended to recommend permanently closed during COVID, but I also enjoy Moshulu and Chart House in Philly, and have heard great things about JG Sky High’s food and views at the Four Seasons.
2. Enjoy an evening stroll through Rittenhouse Square.
It may be a small neighborhood, but there’s a lot to do in Rittenhouse Square. One of my favorite things to do, though, is to simply walk around the park itself. You can people-watch as you rest fountain-side, shop at local boutiques, or just stroll underneath the canopy of trees. And of course, you two can always have dinner at a nearby restaurant afterward! Parc is a lovely French bistro with alfresco dining that we really enjoy!
3. Take a cooking class at Sur La Table.
Another super cute date night idea is to take a cooking class together! You get to make really yummy food, but you also get to spend time with one another learning a new recipe! You can see which classes they’re offering on their website. They have anything from classic French desserts to pizza to pad Thai. They also have classes just for date nights!
I was gifted this experience, and while it was a little out of our element, we had a great time together bonding over cooking something delicious & new, and we (especially) enjoyed eating the meal together afterward! While Sur La Table is in the suburbs, you can Google “Philadelphia cooking class” and find several other options in Center City.
4. Watch a live theater performance.
This was once also out of my element! In all honesty, I never knew how amazing professional theater performances and operas were until I actually experienced one for myself! We saw Hamilton at Forrest Theatre in Philly and it was seriously incredible! We don’t do dates like this often, so it was really fun to do something different!
5. Visit a local brewery.
If you’re hoping for a date night with a combination of a fun and casual vibe, this is for you! There are so. many. breweries. around the city and suburbs offering the best craft beers, and they are amazing! Philly is both the city of brotherly love AND beer city. Most of the local breweries offer both indoor and outdoor seating, have games you can play, and oftentimes host ~bomb~ food trucks. Blue Cross RiverRink hosts a “Winterfest” and “Summerfest” each year and it’s so much fun – awesome food and drinks, waterfront views, fire pits and seasonal amusements. Yes, please!
Bonus: Spend an evening in the suburbs!
Philadelphia is known for its quaint suburbs and neighborhoods along the Main Line. There’s Chestnut Hill, Kennett Square, Ardmore, West Chester, Manayunk, Conshohocken, and more… If you’re anything like me, charming downtown streets have your heart! Between the cute little boutique shops and mom & pop restaurants, what more could you ask for?!
I hope these ideas spark some inspiration for your next date night together! Let me know what you think or if you try any of these! And if you need any other recommendations, just leave a comment or shoot me a message and I’ll be happy to help!
